My Pro Tip

🚗 Seeing the Mediterranean while on a cruise is something else. One thing we have learned is that each Med cruise can be very port heavy. This can cause anxiety and stress when worrying about transfers, trains, busses, etc. If your budget allows, I would suggest you look into hiring a private driver. My friend Mariano, the owner and operator of Pleasant Travel, was fantastic. He has a network of drivers all over Italy and made sure we were well taken care of. All his drivers were punctual and had the expertise to avoid the crowds.

Do I need to pack European Power Adapters?

Depending on the cruise line you shouldn’t have to.

Do I need Euros and How do I get them?

We did convert our US Dollars to Euro’s BEFORE leaving. We used a local bank to make the conversion however this does not NEED to be done. I would suggest having some Euro’s on you. Since then we know use the Wise Card as a family when we travel outside the USA. Wise is a multi-currency debit card that you can “Top Off” in that countries currency and you can then spend your money in their currency. Do I need a passport?

YES. You absolutely will need a passport when cruising on a Mediterranean Cruise or European cruising. Always check for destination requirements as in coming months places like the UK will require Visa’s even for US based visitors.

What about crime, is it safe?

Very safe but you must be vigilant. Just like anywhere in the word there are bad actors. I know people have heard horrible stories of people being robbed while exploring beautiful countries, scammed or flat out robbed. It is true it can happen but plan ahead, protect yourself and your belongings and be aware of your surroundings like you should anywhere you travel and you will be fine.
