There Is No One Best Cruise Line for Everyone
The best cruise line for a first-time cruiser depends on who is traveling, your budget, your destination, your food expectations, your activity level, do you want children around, and how much structure you want. Every cruise line is different and most offer a budget line and a higher grade experience. Example Carnival Cruise Line is also the same company as Princess Cruise Line. However they are 2 completely opposite cruise line experiences.

Royal Caribbean
With some of the newest and biggest ships in the world. I would recommend Royal for a great starting option for families. The activities they have for all ages, entertainment and add-on experiences like FlowRider and the Crown’s Edge. Check out their newest ship Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas.
Carnival
As a family with a teenager we love Carnival Cruise Line and honestly Carnival gets a bad wrap. Known as the “party ships” or the “Walmart of the Sea” it is all just crap. Carnival has some fantastic ships like the Celebration, our favorite the Mardi Gras and the new Festivale (2027 ) on the way. Carnival is know for being budget friendly for fun for all. I would avoid short cruises on Carnival as I think that is where the bad wrap comes from. 3-5 day cruises that turn into booze cruises.

Norwegian
We sailed our first Norwegian cruise from Boston to Bermuda this past April 2026. Norwegian prides itself on the Free Style of cruising. No set dinner times, no required dress code. What is funny is I escorted a group on this ship and the feedback was split. Half loved it and half were just OK with it. I loved it, I thought the ship was great and had plenty of things to do, I thought the food was excellent, staff was attentive and helpful. We did enjoy the no set time for dining, however, this could lead to some wait times if trying to go at the same time as everyone else. Norwegian is also a budget friendly, family focused option. My teen was not that impressed with their kids club activities though.
Best Cruise Line for Couples
Celebrity Cruises
Premium is the word I think of when I think of Celebrity. From the food to the service to their ships. They have lounge areas that let you feel like your in your own backyard, BBQs on the deck, putting greens and a dining staff that has a attention to detail like no other.
Virgin Voyages
Looking for a Adults-Only cruise that has a little bit of everything for everyone than Virgin is the way. I had the chance to tour one of their ships in depth, experience their cooked to order food and it was fantastic. We really want to experience a full 7 day cruise once Lilly is 18. The nightlife and scarlett parties on this ship looked amazing.
Princess Cruises
A little older crowd but we enjoy Princess as well. So much so we were engaged on the Ruby Princess years ago. Although the crowed was a tad bit older they had something happening every night, fantastic food options and romance. They are not called ” The Love Boats” for nothing.
Best Cruise Line for Budget Travelers
1st Choice Carnival
Perfect entry level pricing, many itineraries to choose from and sailing from many ports. Their fleet is comprised of ships of all sizes to fit everyone’s needs.
2nd Choice MSC Cruises
I am totally excited about MSC. We booked a celebratory cruise on one of their newest ships coming in December, MSC World Asia. There are some differences between American cruising and Mediterranean cruising so we shall see. MSC offers some of the lowest cruise fares around.

1st Choice Celebrity
With outdoor areas like The Lawn Club, a real grass outdoor area, The Porch and even afternoon tea, a Celebrity Cruise offers you the chance to relax and get spoiled all at the same time.
2nd Choice Princess
Princess is another great line to cruise on when you want to have a slightly elevated experience and also have plenty of time to relax and unwind. From fantastic dining to amazing shows Princess has something for everyone.
