Boston Cruises: Top Picks for Cruises Departing from Boston

Boston Cruise Port - Flynn Cruise Terminal

Boston hosts multiple cruise lines in the Flynn Cruise Terminal during cruise season. Although the season may be short, cruising from Boston presents some fantastic itineraries you cannot find anywhere else. Boston cruises can range from trips to Bermuda, Canada, New England or you can even depart Boston and end in Reykjavik! There is a cruise departing Boston that can probably meet the needs of most folks.

Along with the diverse itineraries to choose from, Boston Cruises also offer a cruise line that fits your vibe as well. Not sure which cruise line fits your vibe? Check out my free cruise vibe calculator. This quick test will give you some cruise line options that will help you decide. What does this mean? Having so many different cruise lines at your disposal means you can find that right fit for you and your group. With quiet ships, luxury ships and high energy ships to choose from, cruising from Boston gives you a solid choices to pick from.

Embarkation Day is Easy

The Flynn Cruise Port is the only cruise port in Boston. It is sometimes referred to as Black Falcon Terminal but they are one in the same. Norwegian Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Celebrity Cruises, and Princess Cruises all call Boston a homeport offering itineraries that cover Canada, New England and Bermuda and most of these are roundtrip.

There are a few cruise lines sailing from Boston that will also offer Transatlantic cruises or one-way cruises to Canada at which time you can either fly back or experience a Back to Back (B2B) cruise!

Located in Boston’s Seaport area, cruisers choosing Boston as a embarkation port have so much at their disposal. Accessing the terminal is easy whether arriving by plane at Boston Logan Airport, driving or even taking the train. Getting here is easy and with the Seaport being centrally located you can easily walk to many tourist spots or have access to public transportation which makes exploring affordable and convenient.

The cruise terminal also offers off site parking and surrounded by many hotels which offer cruise and stay packages. So plan your trip well and get the most out of your vacation time. Looking for more information on the area, check out this blog post I wrote about Places to Eat, Play and Drink while in the Seaport.

Higher Energy Bermuda Cruises

My pick for the higher energy cruise line would have to be the Norwegian Breakaway. The best thing about this is that the Breakaway is offering a couple of different itineraries when choosing to cruise from Boston. There are itineraries that go Boston to Bermuda, Boston > Halifax>Bermuda or even just New England and Canada. Norwegian offers a ship with a ton of amenities, activities and dining but also offers you three different destinations you can choose from.

Bermuda is absolutely gorgeous and we will be back for sure. We never had the chance to see it all. While there my daughter was able to swim with the dolphins at Dolphin Quest, which is a easy walk from the ship. As a family we experienced the Crystal Caves and also found a hell of a brewery in St. George called Moongate Brewery. You also have to check out the Frog and Onion Pub!

We also had a great time when on the ship as well. Bliss Lounge has a great DJ Most nights, they had a energetic Glow in the Dark Party in the Spice H20 Section as well. They opened this to everyone and offered glow sticks, face painting, drinks, and the cruise director and staff put on a hell of a dance party.

Relaxation and Quiet Cruise

If the high energy crowd is not your style and your looking for something more mature, more downtime and more sophisticated than I would have to offer up the Celebrity Silhouette 12 Night Canada / New England sailing.

Celebrity is known for its attention to detail, modern designs and premium cruising. With a average passenger age in their late 50s the vibe on these ships is more refined and offers a calmer atmosphere. You can lounge at the Lawn Club which boasts real grass or swim in the adults only solarium. Looking for a little night-time party? Celebrity also hosts Night pool parties with DJs and dancers.

If your a foodie like me you will love Celebrity. Their dining is top notch and they offer dinner experiences like animated inner shows and a Lawn Club Grill session where you can cook your own steaks along with a gourmet salad bar all while enjoying the view of the sea! this is a added cost but so cool.

Bucket List Boston Cruise

If the wife and I could just pack up and go, not have to worry about money, kids, jobs or dogs than I would have to say the 14 Night Transatlantic cruise would be my pick. I mean how cool is it that this leaves on the 4th of July too! Boston is known for its 4th of July Celebrations and I am sure this cruise would have some sort of celebration.

This is not a typical mega ship or large ship by any means. This is a newer ( 2022 ) Viking Ocean Cruises ship that only holds 930 passengers and is a All Veranda built ship with top of the line design and amenities. I know Viking cruise fare includes a LOT with it’s purchase but $20k on a 14 night trip is a but out of my wheel house. I guess the one problem you would not need to answer is “Is the drink package worth it? “

Boston Cruises: In Closing

So those are just 3 examples when looking into Boston Cruises. There are many other options. The point of this exercise was to show that you can cruise out of Boston and find a cruise and cruise line that works for you. Whether you want something affordable and energetic like a Norwegian ship, Princess ship or you want something completely over the top elaborate like a Viking OCean cruise, Boston Cruise port has something for everyone.

Another added benefit for us in the Northeast as well is the cost savings we experience when you remove the cost of airfare and pre-cruise hotel. Boston cruise port is not up to speed with the likes of Port Canaveral or PortMiami but they do a hell of a job of getting people IN/OUT of the port.

With ample parking around the terminal and hotels that offer plenty of cruise packages cruising from Boston can not only make travel days easier, it can also extend your vacations and see the sites like Fenway Park, The North End of Boston and Walk the Freedom Trail. If you are thinking of planning a trip from Boston, don’t forget to reach out and lets have a quick discussion.
